What Do you Deisre?

The project “What do you desire” highlights the consuming society we now live and breathe. How can we push our boundaries in reshaping the values in a materialistic context? What is our drive in terms of desire? When the desire takes control over our life there can be a tipping point.

Just like we see with our oceans and how the microplastic starts to fill our bodies. How can we rebuild our perspectives of the things that already exist around us through the way we interacting with them? What shape, what form does it need for us to feel ownership and responsibility for taking care of the things we already have. How much we need is usually not the same amount of how much we want. This is a collaboration between students at the Master program at HDK, Sotenäs Municipality and Marina recycling center. Every year they receive 300 tons of lost fishing gear and “ghost nets” made out of metal and plastic along with other materials. These materials are then carefully sorted by hand to be recycled or reused.

Every year they sort around 180 tons of materials handed in by fishermen around the costal line and lakes in Sweden.
